Qualifications and Work
For both programmes my Thesis subject matter was referenced to the provision of online and standalone digital resources for the secondary sector.
Much of the research I completed can be applied to third level and I have kept abreast of developments since the completion of my last degree.
In each course I was required to design and install a working digital system to demonstrate a concept for a digital media interface. This would have involved creating graphical elements using Photoshop and other non proprietary software. As part of each programme there was a module on print media – reviewing design constraints and using digital tools in creating print material.
My work with the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) was as ACE-DIT as Community Co-ordinator with the Computer Learning in Communities (CLiC) programme, involved the provision and management of computer based training across 24 locations within the Inner City. In addition to sourcing and maintaining hardware for these centres I was responsible for designing suitable programmes which could be delivered at a local level. These would include both non-certified and certified courses – FIT, ECDL QQI etc. The emphasis for CLiC was to place the Learner at the centre of and in control of their learning. Delivery methods would include the provision of distance learning/online facilities. An integral part of my work with ACE-DIT was the design and implementation of websites both internally and for external clients.
My work with SOLAS (formally FÁS) was twofold. I appraised programmes which had been designed by the curriculum development unit to ensure compliance with both SOLAS and QQI (formally FETAC) specifications. The assessment instruments were also examined to ensure complience and that the language used was at a level for the targeted Learners.
I also evaluated the current delivery of SOLAS programmes across both Adult and Community based training.
This involved on-site visits to training centres throughout the country and compiling reports for the Head of the Evaluation Unit to present to the Director of SOLAS.
My current position is as Co-ordinator for a Local Training Initiative (LTI). This is a community education programme under the umbrella of the Louth and Meath Education and Training Board (LMETB) and operates under the title Meath Opportunities for Training LTI. The LTI, which is based in Trim, Co. Meath, runs a part time programme tailored specifically for clients who are attending a second stage rehabilitation centre – Tabor House – in Navan, Co. Meath.
I manage all aspects of the centre from the day to day management of facilities, through to the accounts and co-ordinating the Learners and Tutors. See more about MOT LTI HERE
In a private capacity I design, manage and customise websites for a variety of clients from Community Arts Festivals to Photographers and Rock Bands.
Throughout my various positions I have worked with a variety of staff from different levels from trainers to management both as a team member and team leader.
