27 Wagons of Cotton
Bobby Gould in hell was one hell of a ride. From landing the lead role as the interrogator (Devil) and undertaking the designing of two sets and the construction of both.
This was one of two one act plays: Twenty-seven Waggons of Cotton, directed by Bridid Sweeney and written by Tennase Williams; Bobby Gould in Hell, Directed by Suzanne Walshe and written by David Mamett.
Both perfomed in the Teachers Club 36 Parnell Square West, Dublin 1
Usually with a play the stage is set and as the action progresses there may be some additions to what is seen or some set parts may be taken away. With the two one acts the sets had to reference each other as a quick change around after the first play meant that the set used there had to be flexible and, if possible, elements from it used in a modified way in the second play.
Bobby Gould in Hell drew second position.
Early meeting with the Director…….blah blah…….sketches drawn up…….blah blah………model created……..more meetings with Director……blah blah…refining….blah blah…..final approval…..blah blah….building……opening night….adjustments
Each description of the work should follow the same layout with the above paragraph padded out to suit. Specific mention then of elements which were specifically designed from scratch and where innovation was used with “found” objects.
Add in difficulties experienced and how the were overcome.
(I couldn’t find a video to use!!)
